RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCING SPECIAL DOCUMENTS TO BE PUBLISHED IN THE BRAZILIAN JOURNAL OF PULMONOLOGY
-
Special Supplement
This term designates reviews of general interest topics produced upon invitation from the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal or upon suggestion of the Board of Directors, Departments or Scientific Committees of The Brazilian Thoracic Society. These reviews, due to the criteria of selection of the authors and methodology used are not classified as Guidelines. For instance: The Supplement of Pulmonary Vasculitis, published in 2005 and Occupational and Environmental Diseases, in 2006
Recommendations:
The topic must be developed in chapters, with the individual identification of the authors. Information related to titles, institution and address for correspondence of all authors of each chapter must be included.
For each individual chapter, the Journal rules for review articles will apply:
Unstructured Abstracts in Portuguese and English containing a maximum of 250 words each are necessary.
Three to six keywords in Portuguese and English in accordance with the DeCS and MeSH terms are necessary. Available at the Bireme homepage.
Text containing a maximum of 5000 words (excluding abstracts in Portuguese and English and bibliographic references).
Names of authors referenced should be mentioned sparingly, and preference should be always given to numerical citations.
The total number of Figures and Tables cannot exceed 8.
The total number of bibliographic references cannot exceed 60.
Bibliographic references must follow the norms of the Journal, which are based on the Vancouver style format, updated in October, 2004. Please refer to the “Instructions for Authors” available in copies of the Journal or on the Journal homepage (www.jornaldepneumologia.com.br).
- Brazilian Thoracic Society Guidelines
The term Brazilian Thoracic Society Guidelines designates official Brazilian Thoracic Society documents produced at the discretion of the Board of Directors, Departments or Scientific Committees. The Scientific Committees take responsibility for the production of these documents and will indicate the authors, collaborators and relaters. The methodology used must, whenever possible, follow the norms of the Associação Médica Brasileira (Brazilian Medical Association) for the manuscript production, including a review of the literature and recommendations for levels of evidence.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that only the collaborators directly involved in preparing the final version of the text be listed as authors. It is important to identify to which institution the authors belong. At the end of the list of authors, a note such as “and the Group of the III Brazilian Consensus on Influenza” can be included. In the footnotes of the Journal, in small letters, all members of the group will be listed, e.g., “Group of the III Brazilian Consensus on Influenza: José Manuel da Silva, Pedro Pereira...”
The various parts of the text will not be identified in terms of individual authorship.
An initial abstract is mandatory and should be unstructured and with a maximum of 250 words. The abstract should describe in general terms the content of the document. An Abstract in English with the same content is necessary.
Three to six keywords in Portuguese and English in accordance to the DeCS and MeSH terms are necessary. Available at the Bireme homepage.
Develop the topic as running text. Do not structure text in chapters, but separate the various themes using titles and subtitles. The size of the text, excluding the abstract, figures, tables and bibliographic references must be limited to 12.000 words.
Names of authors referenced should be mentioned sparingly, and preference should be always given to numerical citations.
The total number of Figures and Tables cannot exceed 15.
Bibliographic references should be numbered and should appear sequentially in the text. There should be only one list of Bibliographic References (at the end of the manuscript). The maximal acceptable number of references is 300.
Bibliographic references must follow the norms of the Journal, which are based on the Vancouver style format, updated in October, 2004. Please refer to the “Instructions for Authors” available in copies of the Journal or on the journal homepage. (www.jornaldepneumologia.com.br).
As of the 2008, Guidelines meeting these criteria will be published as integral parts of the regular monthly issues of the Journal.
We ask the authors to submit texts that are as concise as possible. Short texts require less time for revision and layout, reducing the interval between submission and publication.
